First thing I thought when I saw that photo was - well, I thought it was fake because she is smiling! Doesn't look like they're particularly big gazoomers either.

It's just all disgusting. I have had three, yep, thanks for the 40th birthday present!!

You don't need a referal, just go an get one. It's free when you're an old duck! And so it should be. Shouldn't have to pay for something that horrible.

I agree with Momma - go for the test no matter what! I am off for my 6th at the end of this month. Having had to satrt early due to my big sis dying of breast cancer. The pain from this test is much easier to take :-) So listen to your doctor, your mom, your sister, your friends - get that test!

Having had close to twenty of these to date and being told that I have "lumpy" breasts, I can attest to the pain of it all. But as you said, there are worse things. The test that is even worse, is a "spot" mammogram. In this one, the squisher is much smaller and they are trying to look at a single part of the boob. The pain is unreal and it leaves a lovely bruise that takes weeks to fade. The worst of that is (having had two of them) is that when the review the results, they invite you back for another test because they really can't see anymore than they could in the regular mammo. The last test is an ultrasound which surprise, surprise is painless. My advice is, if they invite you back for the spot test, refuse it and go right to the ultrasound.
But, given the option, go for the test anyway.
