Stormy Weather
I know I said I'd get the pictures posted, but I still haven't had much time for myself. Even now I've got a very squirmy Clive on my lap and am typing around him. Then it's swimming lessons, then a bit of shopping, then cleaning out the pool from Sunday's storms, and Wednesday's rain, and Thursday's storms... it just won't stop raining and storming!!! Here's what the radar looked like last night:
It wasn't nearly as bad as Sunday, although the lightning was impressive, and it was moving east/southeast so we only caught the edge of it. A few more cells moved through after that main one but they were smaller.
The area is still cleaning up after Sunday, especially in The Gap. The suburb, not the clothing store or the Thompson Twin's song. There are two YouTube videos I'd like to share with you, both from that battered suburb. The first is one taken during the storm; you be the judge of just what the hell we were hit with. I know it's not a "cyclone" but it was more than downbursts and wind shear! The second is the aftermath at Miss WTF's house.

6 Witty Remarks:
Well, according to your map, we seem to be in or around the same suburb! Weird! Wouldn't it be funny if we were neighbours??!!
The vid is amazing. The winds were horrendous. Thank goodness we are all ok.
The strangest thing about this whole series of storms is that soooo many trees came down (I mean at least 1 in 4 came down in our suburb and that's being conservative) but the palm trees survived and they have really shallow root systems. I guess those long slender trunks and long skinny leaves are meant to survive hurricanes and cyclones...well it's a bloody good evolutionary feature coz it worked! Anything with foliage or real height came down.
I guess the good news is that there aren't too many trees left around our place that can fall ON our place lol. We had a paperbark tree in the yard that was horizontal in the peak of the storm. I couldn't get any footage during because we were busy sopping up the water that came inside and made our sliding doors look like a massive water feature.
Anyway, we're all still safe and sound and that's the main thing. I have a picture for you Mooselet. It's a classic! Will email it later on today.
Stay safe in round 4 folks. Here's hoping it's not as bad as round 1 because I don't think our suburb as a group, could take it.
I wish we could offer you guys some help. It was an incredible storm.
We're glad you are all safe and healthy. I hope the next round will be a nice gentle sprinkling.
MM, not likely. I thought we were safe today, but the Bureau of Meteorolgy is saying we're in for another round tonight as well. This from the Courier Mail:
MORE storms are heading towards southeast Queensland, with damaging winds of up to 90km/hr expected today and tomorrow.
Emergency Management Queensland has issued an urgent storm warning, with the Bureau of Meteorology predicting hail, heavy rain, and strong winds.
Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Vikash Prasad said storms could start to be seen as soon as 2pm today, and continue until 7pm.
I have just one word: FUCK!!!
I saw the forecast was downgraded. I hope this second one was correct.
Brissiemum sent me here. You can see photos of my suburb in my blog, it was amazing storm, glad you are all OK.
